Lisa C Soto was born in Los Angeles, CA, and grew up in New York City and Spain. Her Caribbean heritage and continuous movements between continents and islands have informed her themes, providing her a unique, global perspective. The motifs of trans-culturalism and diminishing borders resonate throughout her sculptures, installations and drawings.

Soto currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her art education at the Amsterdams Instituut voor Schilderkunst, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has been invited to residencies, received commissions and has exhibited her work in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Currently showing at the California African American Museum (CAAM) in the group show “Hard Edge: Geometrical abstraction and beyond.”  Soto has also shown at the Museum of Architecture & Design in Los Angeles, the Perm Museum of Contemporary Art in Perm, Russia. Residencies include Altos de Chavon residency in the Dominican Republic, Fountainhead residency in Miami, Florida and this summer will attend the Hermitage Artist Retreat in Sarasota, Florida.

Soto also hosts “Conversations by artists for artists” monthly at her studio in the Beacon Arts Building in Inglewood, CA. Soto Studio brings together creative contemporaries excelling in their fields, and from across a spectrum that includes, but is not limited to visual, performing, written, and multidisciplinary practices.
