Michael Workman

frazzledMichael Workman is currently an artist, writer, videographer, Maker Beat columnist at Newcity, host of the New Time Discussion Series (forthcoming web series with former WBEZ Chicago producer Matt Cunningham), host of the monthly Private Reading Series and the Private Archive, an archive of literature and poetry reading recordings. He is also the author of the forthcoming graphic novel “Envy the Dead; A Pron-y Drug Addicted Freak-out on National Themes” (working title), and completed pre-revision work on one of three novels he is currently writing.

He has, additionally, worked is an art critic, journalist and entrepreneur, most recently as Art Editor for Newcity, and as a contributing writer for leading Italian contemporary art magazine, Flash Art. In 2009, he co-founded the annual Verge Art Fair in Miami (after co-launching, with Christine Kirouac, the New Material Miami Beach, for which he served as Operations Manager, taking place annually in December concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach), the popular one-off Art Brooklyn, and the Visual Art Network, an internet audience outreach initiative that includes the VANlist email announcement service. He is currently publisher and editor of the newspaper-style art periodical Art Pages, and owner of a curatorial umbrella project, Antidote Projects, the last exhibition for which he produced a ‘zine, False Love, with original work by artists and writers, including AA Bronson.
