Maura Biava

ecateMaura Biava (Reggio Emilia, 1970), lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied at the Academy of Brera (1992) in Milan and at the Rijksacademie (1999) in Amsterdam. She has been in residence at European Ceramic Work Center – Sunday Morning (s’Hertogenbosch, 2008), at the American Academy (Roma, 2010), at the Museum Carlo Zauli (Faenza, 2013), at the ISCP (New York, 2014). From 2005 she teaches at Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag.

Her works are part of collections like Stedelijk Museum Het Domein (Sittard), Kunstfort Centrum Voor Actuele Kunst (Vijfhuizen), Akzo Nobel Art Foundation (Arnhem), De Nederlandsche Bank (Amsterdam). Since her graduation Biava has exhibited all over the world. Solo shows include: Doride / Ultramarine, Maura Biava & Elspeth Diederix, FOAM Photo Museum Amsterdam,The Netherlands. Levanto, Bahnwärterhaus, Galerien der Stadt Esslingen, Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. Scintillascopy, Maura Biava&Dike Blair, Cascina Cuccagna, Milano, Italy,  Museo Zauli, Faenza, Italy. Group exhibitions include: Drawing Typologies,  Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam  The Netherlands. Cooling out, Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel, Switzerland. Diary, Cornerhouse, Manchester, Great Britain. A’dam & Eve, De Appel, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On the Edge of Vision, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, India Chronos & Kairos, Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany Going Dutch: new photograpy from NL, Museum of New Art, Pontiac, USA, Diary, Cornerhouse, Manchester, Great Britain.
