Making it in the art world requires a tremendous amount of work, it’s no secret. Those who tell you that artists are people who don’t take things seriously and spend all day with their heads in the clouds haven’t encountered the reality of the hustle. There’s studio work to accomplish, of course, but there are also funding opportunities to seek, residencies to land, galleries to connect with, and all of it on your shoulders and yours alone. So yes, art careers are intimidating, but they’re not impossible by any means. Here are a few upcoming deadlines to keep you going.
The two-month James Castle House Residency supports artists and scholars with a $4,000 stipend to create work inspired by James Castle, culminating in public engagement and a donated piece for the City’s collection. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for applications is August 6.
West Hollywood’s Art on the Outside program invites U.S.-based artists, curators, and nonprofits to propose temporary public art projects for display at City-owned, publicly accessible sites. Visit the website for more information. Deadline for proposals is August 8.
The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts Residency selects 18 painters, age 25+, through a competitive portfolio review by an independent jury. Learn more at the website. Deadline for applications is August 13.
