She previously served as the Curator and Director of Research at the Chipstone Foundation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While at Chipstone, she collaboratively curated many innovative exhibitions, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrsmscabinet.org\/\"><em>Mrs. M.<\/em><em>&#8212;&#8211;<\/em><em>\u2018s Cabinet<\/em><\/a> at the Milwaukee Art Museum and <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinart.org\/files\/eBooks\/Florence%20Eiseman_%20Designing%20Childhood%20for%20the%20American%20Century.pdf\"><em>Florence Eiseman: Designing Childhood for the American Century<\/em><\/a> at the Museum of Wisconsin Art, and directed Chipstone\u2019s Think Tank Program in support of progressive curatorial practice. Carter\u2019s recent book <a href=\"https:\/\/global.oup.com\/academic\/product\/object-lessons-9780190225032?cc=us&amp;lang=en&amp;\"><em>Object Lessons: How <\/em><em>Nineteen<\/em><em>th-Century Americans Learned to Make Sense of the Material World<\/em><\/a> (Oxford University Press 2018) was published last fall.\u00a0 She is also co-author of <a href=\"https:\/\/global.oup.com\/academic\/product\/tangible-things-9780199382286?q=tangible%20things&amp;lang=en&amp;cc=us\"><em>Tangible Things: Making History Through Objects<\/em><\/a> (Oxford University Press 2015), which is the foundation for an EdX course.
