<em>Truth to Power: Writers Respond to The Rhetoric of Hate and Fear<\/em>;\u00a0 <em>Resisting Arrest: poems to stretch the sky;<\/em> \u00a0<em>Angles<\/em> <em>of Ascent: A Norton Anthology of Contemporary African American Poetry;<\/em> <em>Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry<\/em>; <em>broken land: Poems of Brooklyn<\/em>; and <em>Best American Poetry, 2000. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her poetry is featured on The Poetry Foundation and Academy of American Poets web sites and in online and print journals: <em>African Voices<\/em>, <em>The Agni Review<\/em>, <em>Bomb<\/em>, <em>Barrow Street<\/em>, <em>The Brooklyn Rail<\/em>, <em>Callaloo<\/em>, <em>Cutthroat,<\/em> <em>EOAGH,<\/em> <em>Catamaran Literary Reader<\/em>, <em>The Recluse<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kwelijournal.org\">www.kwelijournal.org<\/a>, <em>Fifth Wednesday<\/em>, <em>The Oxford American<\/em>, <em>Taos: Journal of the Arts<\/em>, <em>The<\/em> <em>Southampton Review<\/em>, <em>TriQuarterly,<\/em> <em>Tin House<\/em>, and <em>Upstreet<\/em>. \u00a0Her poem \u201cLave\u201d was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art for the Poetry Suite accompanying <em>Jacob Lawrence: The Migrations Series<\/em> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Mabou Mines, the internationally acclaimed theater company, commissioned and produced \u2018<em>Mother<\/em>\u2019 and <em>Song for New York: What Women Do When Men Sit Knitting<\/em> both premiered in New York City with composers respectively, Carter Burwell and Lisa Gutkin.\u00a0 She has collaborated with diverse composers and performers including Julie Patton, Jason Kao Hwang, Carolee Schneemann, Lenora Champagne and Ras Moshe Burnett.<\/p>\n<p>She edited \u201cThe Future Imagined Differently\u201d for About Place Journal, the biannual publication of Black Earth Institute, where she is a Senior Fellow emeritus, and she also edited the blog projects: <em>30 Days Hath September<\/em> in 2012 and 2016 which published new poems by poets during the presidential election campaigns. She edited two radically different anthologies: <em>Think: Poems for Aretha Franklin\u2019s Inauguration Day Hat<\/em>\/ published by <em>Bomb<\/em> (2009) and <em>Ordinary Women: An Anthology of Poetry by New York City Women<\/em> (1978). \u00a0Her prose, interviews and arts commentary are found in <em>Essence<\/em> and essence.com, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psa.org\/\">www.psa.org<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cultureid.com\/\">http:\/\/cultureid.com<\/a>\u00a0 <em>The Poetry Project Newsletter<\/em>, The Poetry Foundation\u2019s Harriet blog, \u00a0<em>The Village<\/em> <em>Voice<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tribes.org\/\">www.tribes.org<\/a>, and <em>Bomb<\/em>, where she is a contributing editor. Her column, <em>Cosmopolitan in Brooklyn<\/em> is archived at Calabar Magazine. Interviews are featured in The Poetry Project Newsletter, Bomb<em>,<\/em> <em>Mosaic <\/em>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theotter.com\">www.theotter.com<\/a> and for WOMR.org and for AFTV (Artist Forum television series).<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, she received an award from The Barbara Deming Memorial Fund in support of writing her memoirs, and she has received grants and fellowships for her poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, Foundation for Contemporary Art, the New York Community Trust (Oscar Williams\/Gene Derwood Award) and a travel\/research grant from the Goethe Institute, Boston for travel in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>She curated WORDS SUNDAY, a literary series in Bedford-Stuyvesant 2014-2016 and has curated programs for the Center for Book Arts and as Program Coordinator for The Poetry Project at St. Mark\u2019s Church where she served as Mentor for Emerge, Surface Be, in its first year.\u00a0 She served as juror for New York Foundation on the Arts (NYFA); CLMP\u2019s Firecracker Award, Barrow Street and other contests.<\/p>\n<p>She has read her work and led workshops around the U.S. including University of Arizona Poetry Center, The Poetry Project at St. Mark\u2019s Church; Poets House; The Poetry Center at San Francisco State; Furious Flower Poetry Center, James Madison University; \u00a0University of New Hampshire; UPenn\u2019s Kelly\u2019s Writers House; Poets at Pace;
