He studied semiotics and philosophy at the University of Toronto. Working as artist, curator, and writer, his research-based practice addresses local memory and the subjectivity of aesthetic experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Since his participation in Documenta12 in 2007, he has achieved an international reputation, with solo exhibitions including: <i>In a Material World<\/i>, WORK, London (2013); <i>A Finger in the Pie, A Foot in the Door, A Leg in Quicksand<\/i>, Kunsthalle Lingen (2012); <i>Pictures at an Exhibition<\/i>, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, and <i>The Eye, The Hole, The Picture<\/i>, McCord Museum, Montr\u00e9al (both 2011); <i>Without Persons<\/i>, Art in General, New York, and <i>Tableaux Vivants<\/i>, Fonderie Darling, Montr\u00e9al (both 2010); <i>7 Pictures of Nothing Repeated Four Times, in Gratitude<\/i>, St\u00e4dtisches Museum Abteiberg, M\u00f6nchengladbach (2009); and <i>Habitat<\/i>, Kunstverein Hamburg (2008).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">He has participated in group exhibitions including: <i>Objects Food Rooms<\/i>, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York (2015); <i>If I can\u2019t dance to it, it\u2019s not my revolution<\/i>, Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, Haverford College, Philadelphia (2014); <i>Visible, M\u00f3vil, Vidente<\/i>, Centro P\u00e1rraga, Murcia (2013); <i>Taipei Biennial 2012: Modern Monsters \/ Death and Life in Fiction<\/i>, Taipei Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan, and <i>Surplus Authors<\/i>, Witte de With Contemporary Art, Rotterdam (both 2012); <i>Animism<\/i>, Generali Foundation, Vienna (2011); <i>Haunted: Contemporary Photography \/ Video \/ Performance<\/i>, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2010); and\u00a0<i>If We Can\u2019t Get It Together<\/i>, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto (2008).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">He edited the anthology <i>Commerce by Artists<\/i> (2011)\u00a0published by Art Metropole, Toronto.\u00a0 In 2015 he co-curated the conference <i><a href=\"https:\/\/thisisparadise2015.wordpress.com\/may-29\/\" target=\"_blank\">This is Paradise: Art and Artists in Toronto<\/a><\/i><b>\u00a0<\/b>with Barbara Fischer, in collaboration with Kitty Scott.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Luis Jacob is represented by <a href=\"http:\/\/birchcontemporary.com\/artist\/luis-jacob\" target=\"_blank\">Birch Contemporary, Toronto<\/a>,
