He is founding director of the Aspen Art Museum and has run education programs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY among others. Yenawine served as consulting curator at the Institute for Contemporary Art, Boston, and as Visiting Professor of art education at Massachusetts College of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Department of Teacher Education. He was co-founding director (with cognitive psychologist Abigail Housen) of Visual Understanding in Education, a non profit educational research organization that develops and studies programs that teach teachers to use art to teach thinking and communication skills. He writes about art and has many books including six for children.
