Kern arrived in New York in 1991 and began working for the Print Department at the Museum of Modern Art. After two and a half years, he departed MoMA to become director of Barbara Gladstone Gallery, where he remained until 1995. After working for Gladstone, Anton Kern decided to establish his own gallery with the aim to exhibit the work of young and emerging artists from Europe and the United States.\u00a0Within its first year the gallery introduced the work of several European artists to American audiences for the first time: Lothar Hempel, John Bock, Manfred Pernice,\u00a0Saul Fletcher, Monica Bonvicini, Kai Althoff and Lara Schnitger.
