If it can\u2019t do that, what\u2019s it good for?\u201d -Elif Batuman,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/6763627-the-possessed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Possessed: Adventures With Russian Books and the People Who Read Them<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How do you define happiness? Or unhappiness, for that matter? When did it become de rigueur for humans to seek, throughout our brief time on the planet, some form of happiness at all times? Is this even attainable in a meaningful way? Perhaps, but is it as important as we give it credit for being? More and more, there are those beginning to question whether happiness perhaps isn\u2019t the right goal for a human life. That is not to say we should not pursue those things that bring us joy, but perhaps the emphasis on always\u00a0<em>being<\/em> happy, wondering if we are happy enough is serving the opposite purpose.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/museumofnonvisibleart.com\/interviews\/danny-sobor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danny Sobor<\/a> joined us during the winter to discuss his show, <a href=\"https:\/\/tchotchkegallery.com\/icons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Icons<\/em><\/a>, which ran from February 14 to March 28 at Tchotchke Gallery. For this show, Sobor was compelled to create images that were simpler than some of his other work. Sobor draws significant inspiration from Eberhard Havekost, a painter whose work, he says, \u201cmakes his stomach drop.\u201d To hear more about Sobor\u2019s work, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/artists\/8192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listen to the complete interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/museumofnonvisibleart.com\/interviews\/alex-griffin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex Griffin<\/a> spoke to us a few months ago about his show,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/59d7d44746c3c41be2e09da5\/t\/63b5dc2d8a87c6061cf993b2\/1672862766821\/AlexGriffin_Catalogue2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Afterglow<\/em><\/a>, which ran from January 10 to February 17 at Nancy Margolis Gallery. The title speaks to twilight, and much of the work is made at that time of day. For the last year or so, Griffin found he could not get creative until the daylight faded. Many of the pieces themselves depict this time of day.
