The Art of Hugging

This is the kind of small volume you would pick up in the checkout line at Barnes & Noble as you waited… and would then buy, because it was so surprisingly charming and lovely. I have long been an admirer of Brainard and Delia Carey’s art AND their art coaching (Brainard publishes a newsletter and has also published a book entitled Making it in the Art World), and this is a related-but-different kind of offering. The fact is, the Careys are successful in their art and in their lives because their attitude, their energy, is so positive and kind. This book reflects that. It could easily have been a shallow, empty, shelf-filling kind of book; instead it made me feel like making my own FREE HUGS sign and going out to change somebody’s day.

The Art of Hugging is a beautiful, funny and loving book that makes me feel good. It’s a gentle reminder of how a simple gesture of love can change your mood, others’ feelings, and the outlook we have on the world. It’s a perfect gift. I didn’t read the book cover to cover but each time I see it and open it it makes me smile and makes me feel good. Big hugs to all!

“The Art of Hugging” is a wonderful little book filled with many truths and told in an amusing and surprisingly profound simplicity. Written by this married team, both: artists, editors, performative artists, who are successful in all the diversity of their interests makes it all the more convincing and compelling. This is a must read for artists and people leading complex and competitive lives that need and deserve hugs-and who doesn’t? This book is filled with truisms without being preachy! A beautiful little book, and a collectors item for years to come.

This charming, dear book is a little object made with a lot of love. It’s as much a manual on how to use art for good as it is a guide to hugging. I am a huge fan of these artists. Their generosity of spirit and compassionate outlook are simply infectious.

This a lovingly presented book which would be a nice gift for anyone you know. What I appreciate most about it is that the couople who wrote it tell their own story so beautifully and simply that you are gradually drawn into their world and by the end are wanting to follow in their footsteps! And who knoew there were so many intresting things to learn about hugs? The pictures are charming and the message is universally appealing in any language. Hugs for all!

This is such a lovely, cheerful, soulful book. I was on the jitney and it just lit up my afternoon. I bought a few as gifts after I downloaded one for myself.
I was thinking of what a good idea it is to great someone with a hug even to reconcile or move on. This book was so uplifting and thoughtful and fun. It is good for all ages.
